Pogba to become highest-paid Premier League player after United eal extension

Manchester United remain hard at work to renew Paul Pogba’s deal at Old Trafford, which is due to expire next year. Reports claim that the Red Devils are open to making Pogba the league’s highest-paid player, but the Frenchman is yet to commit his future to the club.

According to a report by The Sun, Manchester United are ready to offer a new bumper contract extension to Paul Pogba, which would make him the highest-paid player in the Premier League. The Frenchman is currently with the national team, competing in the 2020 UEFA Euro. However, his future at a domestic level remains unclear, with his deal at Old Trafford set to run out at the end of the 2021/22 season.

United brought Pogba back to the club by paying Juventus a then world-record fee. The midfielder left the Red Devils’ academy to join the Italian giants on a free transfer and subsequently went on to win four league titles in Italy. When United approached Juventus in 2016 for the player, he had become one of the best in his position in the world.

Pogba failed to recapture his Juventus form at Old Trafford, with the France international shining only in brief moments. However, he remains an important figure within the dressing room and is one of the more experienced players in the squad. Pogba has won only two trophies with Manchester United so far – a League Cup and a Europa League, both in 2017.

Nevertheless, The Sun reports that the club is desperate to keep a hold of Pogba beyond the expiration of his current deal, which runs out on June 30, 2022. To that end, they are willing to make him the highest-paid player in the Premier League by offering him a deal worth £400,000 per week, a £110,000 increase on his current weekly wage.

Should the Frenchman sign the extension, he will overtake Manchester United teammate David De Gea as the highest-paid player, both at the club and in the league. De Gea is currently on a £375,000 per week contract at Old Trafford.
