Boos rang around Wembley as a disappointing England side exited the pitch after drawing 0-0 against Scotland. In the other Group D game, Croatia came from behind to rescue a point against the Czech Republic, leaving the group open heading into the final day.

Ninety minutes couldn’t separate old rivals England and Scotland, as the two teams played out a 0-0 draw in their latest UEFA Euro group stage game. The stalemate meant that England head into the third matchday still at risk of elimination, albeit minuscule. Scotland gave their qualification hopes a boost ahead of their final group stage game against Croatia.

Scotland started the match better of the two teams, and striker Che Adams had an early shot on goal blocked by the opposition defence. England then came close to opening the scoring as John Stones hit the post with his header following a corner. Mason Mount was presented with a chance to give England the lead subsequently, as he was found on the move by Raheem Sterling. However, the Chelsea man was unable to open up his body in time, and his shot went wide of the post instead.

England then survived a scare in the second half as Lyndon Dykes’ goal-bound header was cleared off the line by Reece James. Dykes’ effort was one of 11 the Scots registered on the England goal on the night, two more than their opponents. Even though they have four points on the board, England are yet to qualify for the knockout stages.

Nonetheless, the result of the match between Croatia and the Czech Republic means that the Three Lions cannot finish below the third in the table.

In the earlier match, Croatia came from a goal down to draw 1-1 against the Czech Republic. A controversial penalty call on Dejan Lovern allowed Patrik Schick to score his third goal of the tournament. The Czech Republic went into the break a goal up. Croatia came back stronger in the second half, thanks to a couple of half-time changes by Zlatko Dalic. The 2018 World Cup finalists equalized through Ivan Perisic in the 47th minute. The Inter Milan winger took advantage of a slip by Vladimir Coufal before curling the ball past Tomas Vaclik.

Neither team could score the goal to take the lead, meaning that Group D remained open heading into the final matchday.
