Bangladesh to bid for Champions Trophy 2025

Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan has expressed the desire to host the 2025 edition of the Champions Trophy solely. He said that there are a lot of challenges when it comes to staging a 50-over World Cup or a T20 World Cup, but it is possible for Bangladesh.

In a virtual board meeting of the ICC held earlier this month, it was decided that the eight-team Champions Trophy would return in 2025. This decision has been made as the ICC wants to expand the global events for the men’s game.

The last two editions (2013 and 2017) of the Champions Trophy were held in England. Now, the Bangladesh Cricket Board have come forward and have expressed their interest in staging the eight-team event in 2025.

“There are lots of issues (in order to solely host the Men’s World Cup). We will need to have 10 full-fledged stadiums. It is the same for whoever is interested to bid for the event. So that is not possible for us because we do not have so many venues.

Hosting even the T20 World Cup solely is a challenge for us but we will sit and discuss with some of the neighbouring countries to see whether we can become a co-host. However, there is the Champions Trophy [2025] which is possible for us to host. We have decided to bid to solely host the Champions Trophy,“

BCB president Nazmul Hasan was quoted saying.

In the 10th meeting of the board of directors in the BCB, a decision was made that Bangladesh participate in the host selection process for the upcoming ICC Men’s Events scheduled in the next Future Tours Programme, which spans from 2024 to 2031.

Moreover, Hasan also said that the BCB AGM will take place on the 7th of July in Dhaka. Furthermore, the contracts for the players are almost finalised, but there are a few last-minute changes that are pending.
