    Moyes extends West Ham deal

David Moyes, who is currently in his second spell in charge of the Hammers, signed a new long-term deal. Last season his team finished sixth in the Premier League thereby securing a Europa League qualification.

The Scottish manager took over from Slaven Bilic to save the Hammers from the relegation zone back in November 2017. He led West Ham to finish nine points above the drop zone and successfully completed his job. However, he was sacked by the West Ham board after just six months in charge.

Manuel Pellegrini, the former Manchester City boss, replaced the Scotsman and finished tenth with the club in his first season in charge. His good times did not last as he was sacked the next season after losing nine in the past 12 games. It was Moyes who took over and once again saved the Hammers, who were one point away from relegation when Pellegrini left.

"I am delighted to have committed my future to West Ham United. This is where I want to be and I’m happy. I’m excited to be given this opportunity to build on what we all have already achieved here."

In the following season, i.e., the 2020-21 season, Moyes showed tremendous progress and did an exceptional job with the club. At one point, they were performing consistently every week and were competing for a top-four spot. He managed to win 19 out of 38 games and secured 65 points, which is a club record in the Premier League. This helped them finish sixth in the table above rivals Tottenham Hotspurs and Arsenal. Moreover, they also cemented a spot in the Europa League after four long years.

After negotiations over a new deal, West Ham finally announced that Moyes is here to stay. The Scot believes that the club’s board is ‘fully aligned’ with him and he is also determined to “keep pushing boundaries” at the London Stadium.

“I am delighted to have committed my future to West Ham United. This is where I want to be and I’m happy. I’m excited to be given this opportunity to build on what we all have already achieved here. The owners and I are fully aligned with how we want to keep developing and improving the football club.”

Joint-chairman David Sullivan and David Gold were also delighted and affirmed their trust in him to continue and build a team that represents their Club in the image of their supporters and the value they hold dear – hard work, commitment, hunger, and ambition.

“This is fantastic news and we are delighted that David has committed his long-term future to the club, ensuring great stability going forward. His strong work ethic and determination to build success in the right way have proved a perfect fit for West Ham United, and we are all aligned with what needs to be done to keep progressing and improving.”
