‘Locked in room’ Russell confesses of ‘bio-bubble toll’ on mental health

West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell has admitted that the ‘bubble to bubble’ lifestyle is extremely hard, and it takes a toll on mental health.

“I think it’s taking a toll on myself. I can’t talk for any other player or coaches or anyone but it’s definitely taken a toll on me mentally because from bubble to bubble, in a room locked in, you can’t go out for a walk, you can’t go to certain places, you can’t socialize, it’s different,”

     Russell said.

The 33-year-old further revealed how he deals with mental fatigue and tries to keep himself busy in the room with anything available.

“I like to have a bike or something in my room so that I can get my heart rate up. I would utilise the space that I have, go on the floor, do some push-ups. I use stuff in the room to just get something done.”

    he stated.

Russell has a packed schedule lined up for him and will be in multiple bio-bubbles over the next five months. Being part of India’s bubble for now-suspended IPL 2021, he will be making his appearance for Quetta Gladiators in the remainder of PSL 2021 in the UAE.

After the PSL, he will be with the West Indies for back to back T20 series against South Africa, Australia and Pakistan. Russell will then turn up for Jamaica Tallawahs in the CPL 2021 from August 28, after which he will travel to the UAE for the remainder of IPL 2021. Then there’s the much anticipated T20 World Cup lined up in October.
