Trevor Bayliss returns to the BBL after six years. He was appointed as the head coach of the Sydney Thunder. Meanwhile, Melbourne Renegades have decided to rope in David Saker as the head coach.

The Australian duo return to the Big Bash League coaching arena after a gap of 5-6 years. Bayliss has been roped in as the head coach of the Sydney Thunder while Saker returns to Melbourne Renegades. The latter has also been appointed as the head coach. Moreover, both of them have signed multi-year contracts with their respective franchises.

The 2019 World Cup-winning coach Bayliss has signed a three-year contract with the Thunder. He replaces Shane Bond, who decided not to extend his contract to spend more time with his family. Moreover, Bayliss has been a part of the Sydney Sixers setup between 2011 to 2015, which included a title win in the inaugural season.

Bayliss, who is also the head coach of the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, is looking forward to linking with the Thunder and he was hoping that they can go the distance this time around.

“It’s great to be home and involved in New South Wales cricket. The Thunder have done well over the last few years. Hopefully we can go one or two steps further this summer,”

    Bayliss was quoted saying.

Meanwhile, Saker returns to a franchise that he has coached before. He was with the Melbourne Renegades in the 2015-16 season, and he returns to the franchise after having two disappointing finishes in the last two seasons.

Saker, who has been the bowling coach of England, Australia and Sri Lanka, has signed a two-year deal. He feels the Renegades have a talented side, and they will be looking to add a few more options going ahead.

“We’ve got a talented squad with some class and power at the top of the order, complemented by a strong bowling attack and some exciting young talent.

We’ll be looking to add to this group over the next few months to ensure we’ve got plenty of options when the season gets underway,”

    Saker said.
