Cricket Australia faces tricky call on allowing cricketers to return to IPL 2021

CA will need to weigh its options on allowing some of their top cricketers to return to the IPL for its second half.

BCCI is reportedly trying to squeeze in the remainder of IPL 2021 just before the T20 World Cup, which starts on the 18th of October. However, the availability of overseas players may be a big issue for the Premie League.

While the ECB director Ashely Giles has said England players are unlikely to be available, Cricket Australia will need to weigh in the pros and cons and take a call on the availability of some of the top Australian players. Australia have a pretty hectic schedule ahead of them in the lead up to the T20 World Cup before the all-important Ashes series at home.

Australia will be flying to the Caribbean to face the West Indies in five T20Is and three ODIs in July.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Cricket Board are planning to host the Aussies for a series for five T20Is in August and there is a plan for a tri-series between Afghanistan, Australia and West Indies in September, hosted by Afghanistan.

That will be followed by T20 World Cup in October-November. The home summer starts with the historic Test match against Afghanistan in Hobart before the five-match Ashes series commences.

Thus, CA have their task cut out as they look to manage their players, especially in these strange times, where bubble life has taken precedence. They will need to take a call on the player availability for the second half of the IPL.
