The 35-year-old Croatian midfielder has penned down a contract extension with Spanish giants Real Madrid which will keep him in the club until the end of next season. This also marks his 10th year at the club, having signed for them back in 2012 from Tottenham Hotspurs for £30m.

Since then, he has made 391 appearances for the club and has won 12 major honours for Los Blancos, including four Champions League. So far, he has scored 28 goals and assisted 61 times for Real. He also won the Ballon D’or back in 2018 with 753 points, 275 points more than Cristiano Ronaldo, for his exceptional performances for the club as well as his national side.

Modric also took to Twitter to announce his contract extension and seemed happy about the decision.

“Happy and proud to continue wearing the jersey of the best team in the world,”

    he wrote.

When asked about his age and other speculations about his retirement, the 35-year-old annulled everything. He said:

“You shouldn’t look at the age, it’s all about how we perform on the pitch, regardless of age. I’m still hungry for more, to continue playing at the highest level and I feel great.”

However, it has been a disappointing season for Real, having lost the league to city rivals, Atletico Madrid. Zinedine Zidane’s side also got knocked out of the Champions League by Chelsea in the semi-finals and failed to win a trophy for the first time since the 2009/10 season.
