The DFB has announced former Bayern head coach will take over from Joachim Low as the head coach of the men’s after the 2020 UEFA Euro. Low had announced his decision to step down from his role earlier this year, with his former assistant now confirmed as his successor.

Flick was previously involved with the national team from 2006 till 2014, during which time he served as the assistant to Joachim Low. He helped Low and Co to win the World Cup in his final year with the national team.

“Everything happened very quickly, especially signing the contract, but I’m really happy to be the Germany head coach from autumn,”

“The season has just finished and the last two years at FC Bayern have left their mark on me.

The team spirit and attitude of the players were excellent and I will take plenty with me that will help my work in my new role. I’m really excited because of the class of players we have in Germany, especially the youngsters.

“We’ve got every reason to be optimistic about future tournaments, including the home EUROs in 2024.”

    Flick said.

Low took over the German National Team in 2006 and helped them win the FIFA World Cup in 2014. Germany also reached the semi-finals of the 2012 and 2016 Euros while they were eliminated at the same stage during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

✍️ Der Vertrag ist unterschrieben: Hansi #Flick wird nach der @EURO2020 neuer Bundestrainer.

However, Germany would also exit the 2018 World Cup in the group stage, starting the cycle which would eventually lead to Low’s resignation.

Meanwhile, Flick who had left the national team set-up in 2014, returned to football as Niko Kovac’s assistant coach at Bayern Munich, five years later.

He was later appointed as Bayern’s head coach after a poor spell in his second season saw the club dismiss Niko Kovac. Flick, in his short time at the club, won seven major trophies – including a treble – within half a season.
