Bayern striker picked up another individual honour to commemorate a truly unforgettable season. The Polish striker won the European Golden Shoe, accumulating twenty-two points more than the runner-up Lionel Messi.

On Saturday, with the very last kick of the season, Lewandowski broke Gerd Muller’s 49-year-old record of most goals in a single Bundesliga season. The Polish striker netted his 41st of the season in a 5-2 win over Augsburg – a feat he accomplished in just 29 matches. A day later, he was confirmed as the winner of the European Golden Boot for the 2020/21 season, with Messi and Ronaldo finishing in his wake.

Overall, Lewandowski scored 48 goals this term and backed it up with nine assists. His total contribution stood at 57 from 40 matches in the end, although he was unable to help Bayern Munich retain their European crown. Nonetheless, Lewandowski did help the Bavarians win their ninth Bundesliga title in a row.

Lewandowski was officially crowned as the winner of the European Golden Boot on Sunday night, as leagues across Europe came to an end. The Poland international finished 22 points ahead of Barcelona’s Messi in second, thanks to his incredible league tally. His goal tally of 41 for the season, multiplied by the league coefficient, meant that he finished on 82 points, followed by Messi on 60.

Ronaldo sat out the final match for Juventus, with those involved in the club citing fatigue issues. Nevertheless, the Portugal international still managed to finish third in the Golden Boot race, two points behind Messi. Ronaldo’s international teammate Andre Silva came fourth after a highly productive season with Eintracht Frankfurt, which saw him finish with 28 goals in the Bundesliga – second only to Lewandowski.

Erling Haaland capped off the top five, with his 27 goals and eight assists providing him an edge over Kylian Mbappe, who had one goal contribution fewer.
