    Archer to undergo elbow surgery

England fast bowler, who has been struggling with injuries in the recent past will undergo a surgery on his right elbow. The ECB released a statement and said that he had consulted a medical consultant and will undergo surgery on May 21.

2021 hasn’t been the best year for the 26-year-old. He has featured in only seven out of the 14 international games England have played this year – two Test matches and five T20Is, all of them against India.

He was rested for the tour of Sri Lanka before an elbow niggle ruled him out of two Test matches and the three-match ODI series against India. The Barbados-born England fast bowler also missed the IPL 2021 due to a hand injury and his constant elbow troubles.

Archer returned to action for Sussex last week in their County Championship fixture against Kent. He did bowl a solid spell in the first innings, but his elbow injury only got worse. That subsequently ruled him out of the Test series against New Zealand.

“Jofra Archer has been reviewed by a medical consultant in respect of his right elbow soreness. He will now proceed to surgery tomorrow,“

the ECB stated in their release.

There is no news on when Archer would make a comeback so far. England have a hectic year ahead. After the two-match Test series against New Zealand, they host Sri Lanka and Pakistan for white-ball series’ before they face India in a mega five-match Test series.

England will desperately want Archer to be fit in time for the T20 World Cup and the Ashes at the end of the year. The T20 World Cup is scheduled to be played in October-November either in India or the UAE. That will be followed by Ashes down under, where England will be looking to end their drought and regain the urn for the first time since 2013.
