West Indies’ two-time T20 World Cup-winning skipper, Daren Sammy, will no longer turn up as captain and player for St Lucia Zouks in the Caribbean Premier League but will remain part of the franchise’s set-up in a new role.
Ahead of the forthcoming season of the CPL, it was confirmed on Tuesday, Sammy will now be a T20 Cricket Consultant and Brand Ambassador for the Zouks.
The announcement from Sammy and Zouks came as they retained their core group of players for the CPL 2021. Andre Fletcher, Kesrick Williams, Rahkeem Cornwall and Roston Chase will continue to represent Zouks. The franchise will soon announce the names for the remaining 10 vacant spots.
Coming back to Sammy, the experienced all-rounder has been part of the Zouks franchise since 2013 and even led the team to the CPL final last year. But the 37-year-old is now looking forward to serving the franchise in a new capacity with “new passion”.
“It’s been an absolute pleasure to have led and been a part of the St Lucia Zouks from its inception,” Sammy said, as quoted by Cricbuzz. “Even though some may say good things must come to an end it will not be in this instance. St Lucia Zouks and I will always be a team.”
“But since venturing into coaching, I realise I have a new passion that can allow me to still contribute and play a part in taking the franchise forward on its quest to winning a CPL title and developing future stars!”

Zouks’ coach Andy Flower expressed delight to still have Sammy available for the team in some form and capacity.
“I have loved my interaction with him. Thank you very much for what you have done and look forward to working with you in the future.”
