India Women set to tour Australia for limited-overs series in September

India women are set to travel to Australia ahead of next year’s 50-over World Cup. The tour was originally scheduled for January this year, but the worsening Covid-19 situation meant it was postponed by both BCCI and CA’s mutual agreement.

The dates of the series are yet to be announced officially by Cricket Australia. However, Australia pacer Megan Schutt dropped a hint that India will be visiting them in September.

“We have got a tour against India in mid-September. So, there’s a couple of camps. I believe we are doing one in Darwin, which will be really cool…and then the tour against India. And then pretty much from there things get crazy with Big Bash, WNCL, Ashes, World Cup, and hopefully the Commonwealth Games,”

Megan Schutt stated on No Balls: The Cricket Podcast, hosted by Kate Cross and Alex Hartley.

The BCCI, in its last Apex Council meeting, had also approved the tour of Australia ahead of the next year’s World Cup in New Zealand. A home series against the West Indies was also given a green signal.

Before Australia, India women will be travelling to England for a tour starting on June 16 and ending on July 15, where they will play their first Test match in seven years. The tour will also consist of three ODIs and three T20 internationals. The BCCI announced the squads led by Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet Kaur last week.

India women had lost to SA women in both the ODI and T20I series at home earlier this year. WV Raman was replaced by Ramesh Powar as the head coach of the team.

Former India cricketer, who had previously coached the women’s team until 2018, was reappointed by the Cricket Advisory Committee, comprising Madan Lal, RP Singh and Sulakshana Naik on May 13. Powar’s first assignment will be India’s tour of England while he will have his work cut out preparing the team for next year’s ODI World Cup.
