Financial troubles surround Bohar players as BCCI delays monthly salary

Bihar Cricket Association and BCCI are blaming each other for the crisis as state players continue to suffer.

The cricketers from Bihar have not received their salaries for the past two seasons. Moreover, the second wave of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has worsened the situation. The players are also not getting to play any matches due to the restrictions imposed because of the COVID risk.

The cricketers blamed the BCCI for their situation as the governing body is yet to give them remuneration for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 season. Bihar cricketer Prashant Singh spoke about the hardships his family is experiencing as he hasn’t been paid by BCCI.

The young pacer claimed that not getting paid has made his condition worse as he is the only earner in his family. Adding to the misery, his elder brother has contracted Covid-19, which has left the whole family extremely worried regarding how to handle the medical expenses.

“Every time I get a message on my phone I presume money has been deposited. I don’t know where I will get money from. We have been hearing this since last year that money will be deposited next month. Our financial situation is dire at the moment,”

Prashant, who is to receive about Rs 8 lakh, told The Indian Express.

Meanwhile, the Bihar Cricket Association and BCCI are blaming each other as both the institutions have held each other responsible for the delay. Speaking about the whole matter, BCA president Rakesh Tiwary reckoned that the BCCI told them that there was an error in the documentation, and thus BCA has sent all the papers again.

The pandemic has really impacted the state and club players as it is simply not financially viable to hold the matches in a bio-bubble, and playing without necessary restrictions is out of the question.
