The Blues created and missed several chances during the at Stamford Bridge, but goals from Timo Werner and Mason Mount were enough to take them through.

Tomas Tuchel’s side had a minor advantage heading into the match thanks to Christian Pulisic’s ‘away’ goal in the first leg. However, the German surprised everyone with his team selection, with the American dropped to the bench. Instead, the Blues started with Timo Werner and Kai Havertz in front. The two combined to score the first goal of the night, which arrived just before the half-hour mark.

Werner had a goal ruled out earlier due to a marginal offside. However, he held his run the second time around and headed the ball into an empty net after Havertz had hit the crossbar with a lob over Thibaut Courtois. The Belgian goalkeeper and his defence were left stranded away from the goal line, allowing Werner to head the ball in, unchallenged.

Chelsea had several opportunities to extend their lead in the second half. Havertz hit the crossbar again shortly after the restart before later firing a shot straight at Courtois from close range. Mason Mount and N’Golo Kante were also guilty of wasting good opportunities, much to the frustrations of their manager.

However, despite missing a horde of opportunities, Chelsea did manage to put the game to bed five minutes from time. Kante won the ball high up the pitch before playing substitute Pulisic in behind the defence. The American did well to keep hold of the ball before patiently picking out Mount’s run across the box. The Englishman slammed the ball home with his first touch, confirming Chelsea’s place in the final.
