KKR pacer Pat Cummins is winning hearts on and off the field. The marquee player donated $50,000 to PM Cares Funds to aid India in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic. Amidst all the concerns over the future of Vivo IPL 2021, this gesture from the Australian deserves praise.
India is going through one of the worst phases in modern history due to COVID-19 crisis as there is a shortage of oxygen, beds, ventilators and other resources. To help India get back on its feet, Australian cricketer Pat Cummins donated $50,000 to PM Cares Funds.
The star cricketer also urged his fellow players to provide as much assistance as they possibly can. Taking to Twitter, Cummins said that he was deeply saddened to see people suffering at this time. The Australian expressed his affection towards Indians and said that he has received a lot of warmth and love from this country.
The Vice-Captain of the Australian Cricket Team wrote,
India is a country I’ve come to love dearly over the years and the people here are some of the warmest and kindest I’ve ever met. To know so many are suffering so much at this time saddens me greatly.
Speaking about the ongoing discussion over holding IPL when India is suffering terribly, he said that there has been quite a bit of discussion over here whether it is appropriate for the IPL to continue while COVID-19 infection rates remain high. He claimed that he is advised that the Indian Government is of the view that playing the IPL while the population is in lockdown provides a few hours of joy and respite each day at an otherwise difficult time for the country.
Cummins further claimed that cricket players are privileged to have a platform that allows them to reach millions of people that can be entertained.
With that in mind, I have made a contribution to the “PM Cares Fund,” specifically to purchase oxygen supplies for India’s hospitals,
he added.
The Australian pacer said that it is easy to feel helpless in such difficult times, but he is hopeful that we all will beat this pandemic sooner than we expect.
I know my donation isn’t much in the grand scheme of things, but I hope it will make a difference to someone,
he said.
