RCB skipper Virat Kohli has been fined INR Rs 12 lakh as his side maintained a slow over-rate in their game against CSK. This was RCB’s first offence of the 2021 season.

It wasn’t the best of days for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on the 25th of April (Sunday). They ended up losing their first game of the 2021 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) which saw their four-match winning streak come to a screeching halt as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) completely outplayed them (largely due to Ravindra Jadeja’s all-round brilliance).

Moreover, the RCB bowlers couldn’t finish their overs on time either. Hence, that meant, RCB skipper Virat Kohli was fined for a sum of INR 12 lakh. The three-time finalists took 116 minutes to complete their 20 overs against CSK. Ravindra Jadeja’s towering finish which saw him belt 37 runs in the 20th over off Harshal Patel played a big role as well as the left-handed Saurashtra all-rounder hit five sixes and one four along with a double.

This is RCB’s first offence of the 2021 edition. According to the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, the first offence from a team will ensure that the captain of that team will be fined INR 12 lakh. When the slow over-rate offence is made the second time, the captain is docked INR 24 lakh while each member of the playing XI is fined INR 6 lakh or 25% of their match fee, whichever is lower.

On the third instance of the slow over-rate offence, the captain of the erring team will have to pay a fine of INR 30 lakh, and he will be banned for one match (the very next). Meanwhile, all other members of the playing XI will be charged with a fine of INR 12 lakh or 50% of their match fee, whichever is lower. For any subsequent offences, the team and the captain are fined with the same as the third offence.

Apart from Kohli, MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, and Eoin Morgan are the other captains to have faced a fine for slow over-rates.
