New Zealand replace England as No.1 side in the ODI rankings

New Zealand have replaced 2019 World Cup champions England at the top of the pile to become the new No.1 side in ICC ODI rankings.

In the latest update to the rankings, the Black Caps have advanced two slots to gain the numero uno spot, whereas their English counterparts have dropped down to the fourth position.

These latest updates follow the elimination of results from 2017-18 and give only a 50% weightage to matches played until May 2020, a period including the World Cup in the UK.

New Zealand have aggregated 121 points after winning their home ODI series 3-0 against Bangladesh in the 2020-21 season. Australia have made a jump of two places to become No.2 in the latest ICC ODI rankings with 118 points.

India, on the other hand, are third with 115 points after dropping down one place but are still ahead of England on decimal points. England have suffered for their 2-1 series defeats to Australia and India in the considered period, where they previously also conceded an ODI to Ireland.

Among other teams, West Indies and Sri Lanka have seen a change in their ranking after beating the Island nation 3-0 at home in March and are now eighth in the list, ahead of their Lankan rivals.

In the T20I rankings, however, England retained their No.1 spot after drawing a three-match series against Pakistan 1-1, beating Australia 2-0 and South Africa 3-0, before going down 3-2 away to India, who are second in the list with 272 rating points.

New Zealand have been rewarded for series wins at home against West Indies, Pakistan, Australia and Bangladesh with a jump up to the third spot ahead of No.4 Pakistan by a couple of rating points.

Australia have slipped to the fifth position, and West Indies have dropped down to the tenth position. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have moved a place each to be eighth and ninth in the table, respectively.

Like in the ODI rankings, there was no change in positions for Afghanistan, Pakistan and South Africa in T20Is. South Africa are fifth in the ODIs and sixth in T20Is, Pakistan sixth in ODIs and fourth in T20Is and Afghanistan are tenth in ODIs and seventh in T20Is.
