Chennai Super Kings batting coach Michael Hussey has tested positive for COVID-19. He became the third member of the CSK contingent to return with a positive report for the deadly virus. However, the Australian is being retested as it is hoped that it could be a false positive as it was for CEO Kasi Viswanathan.

The 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League looked all fine for the first few weeks, and the first half of the tournament went ahead smoothly. There were COVID-19 cases, but they were before the tournament started or before the players joined the team bio-secure bubbles.

However, the bubble seems to have burst and gone into disarray. There have been multiple cases in various franchises and the team bubbles. Two KKR players tested positive for COVID-19 before three members of the CSK bio-bubble were reported to be COVID positive.

The Kings’ CEO Kasi Viswanathan, bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji, and the service staff member returned positive. However, on retesting, Viswanathan was not infected as he returned with a negative report. Meanwhile, the other two were confirmed to be positive.

CSK was dealt with another blow as the latest to test positive for COVID-19 in their camp is batting coach Michael Hussey. The former Australian batsman’s reports came out on Tuesday. However, it is hoped that, like the CEO’s report, Hussey’s result is also a false positive. Thus, he is being tested once again. A source confirmed the same.

“Michael Hussey tested positive. But his samples are being redone. Hopefully, the report will come negative,“

a source was quoted saying to The Times of India.

In other news, Sunrisers Hyderabad wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha and Delhi Capitals leg-spinner tested positive for COVID-19 as well, and it only added to the growing list of casualties. Thus, the multiple cases in multiple franchises prompted BCCI to suspend the ongoing season of the IPL, prioritising the health and safety of the players, support staff and all others participating in the IPL.
