“Bring on the next season”: Unadkat after getting snubbed from WTC and England tour selection

Jaydev Unadkat has responded after not being considered in the Indian Test squad for the WTC final and England series after producing a record Ranji Trophy season.

On May 7, the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced a 20-member squad for the World Test Championship final and the five-match Test series against England. Along with the main squad, four reserve players will also travel to England.

There are no surprising picks in the main squad as the management has stuck with the familiar faces. However, there have been some new names on the reserve players’ list. The reserve set which will be travelling with the main squad consists of Abhimanyu Easwaran, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan, Arzan Nagwaswalla.

Former India cricketer Dodda Ganesh lashed out at BCCI’s selection for the WTC and England tour for ignoring the left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat. The 29-year-old has delivered some outstanding performances in first-class cricket and has made a case to be included in the Indian side. Unadkat led his domestic team Saurashtra to a Ranji Trophy championship and made a record by picking the most wickets in a season – 67 wickets during the 2019-20 edition.

Dodda Ganesh seemed baffled by the selector’s decision to leave out Unadkat even after such a performance and took to Twitter to express his disappointment.

What else does @JUnadkat need to do to get into the Indian test squad. It’s perplexing to see him being ignored again and again despite great performances year after year at the FC level #ENGvIND

The left-arm seamer, who himself is disappointed on being left out of the squad, was overwhelmed by Ganesh’s support.

Your concern motivates me even more! Bring on the next season.. 💪🏼🔥

Jaydev Unadkat seems motivated to put in more such performances and catch the selectors’ attention. Unadkat’s lone outing in the longest format of the game came in 2010 against South Africa, where he went wicketless while conceding runs at an economy rate of 3.88.
