Tim Seifert and Prasidh Krishna became the latest cricketers from the Kolkata Knight Riders camp to test positive for COVID-19. While Seifert is in Ahmedabad and will fly to Chennai for treatment, Krishna tested positive after reaching Bengaluru, his home town.

That takes the KKR tally for COVID-19 cases to four after Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier emerged as the very first cases in the IPL 2021.

Seifert was scheduled to fly back to New Zealand with the other members of the New Zealand contingent which included various coaches and players participating in the IPL. However, the wicket-keeper batsman will now miss the charter flight and will undergo treatment. He is currently in Ahmedabad and will be transferred to Chennai, where he will be treated.

According to a press release issued by the New Zealand Cricket, Seifert could clear both of his pre-departure PCR tests. However, the release also stated that the 26-year-old Wanganui-born had returned seven negative tests in the last 10 days before testing positive. NZC also confirmed that Seifert “is experiencing moderate symptoms” and will be transferred to New Zealand once he tests negative.

“Once Seifert has undergone treatment and the statutory period of isolation and has tested negative for Covid-19, he will be transferred back to New Zealand where he will undergo the mandatory 14-day period of managed isolation,”

a press release from the NZC stated.

On the other hand, Krishna tested positive after returning to his home town – Bengaluru. It is reported that the 25-year-old Karnataka fast bowler returned negative in all his tests before leaving the KKR bubble. According to ESPNcricinfo, Krishna flew down to Bengaluru on a commercial flight from Ahmedabad, and it was a business class ticket.

He landed on the 5th of May, and he got himself tested after feeling uneasy on the 6th, which returned a positive report. However, it is understood that it is a mild case, and Krishna is well out of danger.

Earlier this week, Krishna was picked as one of the reserve players for India’s England tour, which will comprise one World Test Championship final match and five-match Test series against England.
