The 24-yеar-old paceman, who made his international debut in 2016, leaves a legacy of memories and a bright future in cricket.

Naveen donned the Afghan uniform for seven matches in his very brief but significant ODI career, collecting 14 wickets at an outstanding average of 25.42. Although he has continued to play an important role in the team’s T20 setup, having made 27 appearances in the format, his last ODI participation was in 2021. This lengthy break caused him to take a break from the 50-over format in 2022 to focus on mental and physical preparation for the T20 World Cup, which took place last year.

Aside from his international responsibilities, Navееn-ul-Haq has been a popular presence in many T20 tournaments throughout the world, including the Indian Premier League, Big Bash League, Pakistan Super League, and Lanka Premier League.

Naveen’s comeback to ODIs was announced earlier in September, when he was included to Afghanistan’s 15-man World Cup squad. Along with Fazalhaq Farooqi, Abdul Rahman, and Azmatullah Omarzai, he is anticipated to improve the nation’s speed assault.

Navееn addressed the difficulties of his choice to retire from ODIs in a poignant latter posted on his Instagram account, but emphasised the importance of continuing his cricketing path.

“It has been an absolute honour to represent my country, and I would like to announce my retirement from the ODI format at the end of this World Cup and will continue to wear this blue jersey in T20 cricket for my country”,

    he said.

The player also thanked the Afghanistan Cricket Board and his devoted fan base for their steadfast support throughout his career.

Afghanistan’s World Cup campaign will go off on October 7 in Dharamsala with a match against Bangladesh.
