Premier Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah has given a slight ray of hope in relation to his recovery in time for the World Cup, which will commence in October. It will be a huge World Cup for India, given that they will be the sole hosts of the event.

The stakes will be ever so higher after their losses in the semifinals of the 2015 and 2019 editions of the World Cup following their famous triumph in 2011. India suffered two disappointing defeats in the two previous World Cups in almost identical circumstances, with their top order letting them down, resulting in the Indians falling short of their target.

Bumrah has been injured for a considerable period of time, and has not played much cricket since missing out of the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia. His return was slated for the Border Gavaskar trophy, but it was later revealed that the extent of his injury was not fully apparent, forcing him to undergo surgery.

Following the surgery, the Mumbai Indians star is back in training, and sources within the National Cricket Academy have revealed that the pacer’s recovery is progressing well. They further went on to add that Bumrah could well play a few practice matches in July.

However, former Strength and Conditioning coach Ramji Srinivasan has asked the BCCI to exercise caution with respect to rushing Bumrah back into competitive action. He advised that if would be optimal if he played a few domestic matches before coming back into international cricket.

“He should not be hurried. Playing practice matches at the NCA is a good step as it will help tune his body to the demands of a match. But he should be made to play in some domestic matches before bringing him to top-level cricket,”

    he said.

“The demands of international cricket are different, and the body should be absolutely ready to take that amount of workload. Recovering from a stress fracture is a delicate exercise, and Bumrah should be allowed maximum recovery time,”

    the former S&C coach added.
