Lampard to continue as interim boss of Chelsea until the end of the season – Sky Sports

According to Sky Sports News, Frank Lampard will remain Chelsea’s caretaker manager until the end of the season. On April 6, the club appointed Lampard as manager until the summer, and that will remain the case despite the club’s continued poor form.

On Wednesday night, Chelsea were defeated 2-0 at home by West London rivals Brentford, Lampard’s fifth defeat in five games. The club’s search for a new permanent manager continues, with Mauricio Pochettino the current frontrunner, with the intention of appointing him at the end of the season.

Sky Sports News had reported earlier this week that the next manager’s decision and announcement are expected within the next week. Chelsea were booed off the pitch at halftime against Brentford, and many fans chose to express their displeasure even further by leaving Stamford Bridge early.

Chelsea have not won in any competition or on any ground since beating Leicester at the King Power Stadium on March 11, when Graham Potter was still in charge. Since then, Bruno Saltor and Lampard have presided over an eight-game winless streak.

With last week’s Champions League defeat to Real Madrid, the 44-year-old became the first Chelsea manager in the club’s 118-year history to lose his first four games in charge. Lampard is the team’s fourth manager this season. Before the England legend arrived, they played seven games under Thomas Tuchel, 31 under Potter, and one under Saltor.

The report from Sky Sports comes on the heels of Chelsea suffering yet another humiliating defeat in a bad season. The Blues lacked confidence and didn’t appear to have a game plan as they were defeated 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Cesar Azpilicueta’s own goal eight minutes before halftime put Brentford ahead. Bryan Mbuemo then sealed the deal with the Bees’ only shot on goal in the 78th minute.

Chelsea have little to play for, with a top-four finish virtually out of the question given the 20-point gap to fourth-placed Manchester United. They still have six league games left, beginning with a trip to league leaders Arsenal on Tuesday, May 2.
