Chelsea owner Boehly eager to convince Havertz to stay at Stamford Bridge this summer

Chelsea midfielder Kai Havertz is one of many players who may leave Stamford Bridge this summer, and club owner Todd Boehly reportedly wants to persuade him to stay at the club.

The 23-year-old’s current contract with Chelsea is set to expire in 2025, while N’Golo Kante is also currently set to leave west London as a free agent, according to the Evening Standard. The American businessman reportedly wants to tie down both players to new deals.

According to the report, Chelsea is in need of a significant roster purge because Frank Lampard is currently in charge of one of the top football organisations. However, it seems like Havertz will escape the chopping block despite the forward’s patchy season-long results.

Despite Chelsea signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Raheem Sterling in the summer, as well as youngster David Datro Fofana in the January transfer window, Havertz has once again been selected as the attacking line’s focal point.

Since moving to the English capital in 2020, Havertz has caused controversy among Chelsea supporters. Although there have been no reports of negotiations for a new contract, this latest development may soon lead to a meeting between Boehly’s team and the German international to work out new terms.

Boehly’s desire for Havertz to stay at Chelsea is perhaps unsurprising given how young the forward is and how much room the German has to develop into a world-class player, but the 23-year-old can be forgiven for wanting to leave Stamford Bridge.

After three seasons, the attacker has yet to find his rhythm in the Chelsea team and has not solidified his role, and a move to a club where he will have a defined position could be an appealing proposition for the former Leverkusen star, who may be tired of west London already.

Real Madrid’s 4-0 aggregate victory has effectively left the Blues with nothing to play for this season, with only seven League games remaining and European qualification looking increasingly unlikely. The Blues next face Brentford at home on Thursday before travelling to the Emirates Stadium to play Arsenal the following week.
