Antony has potential to be ‘huge player’ for Man Utd, opines Scholes

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes is of the opinion that something has clicked with the winger in recent weeks, despite the fact that he has not always been Antony’s biggest admirer and questioned his output earlier this season.

After a deft touchline dribble, the winger was outstanding in this past weekend’s victory over Nottingham Forest, in which he not only scored but also assisted Diogo Dalot on his teammate’s goal.

The Brazilian has “started to look like the player we all expected,” according to the legendary United player, who also feels that Erik ten Hag’s team will benefit from having him as an important contributor for at least the next couple of seasons.

“It took some convincing from me, especially after the start of the season, but I think since that Everton game at home [on 8 a April] he has become a different player,”

Scholes said on BT Sport, ahead of United’s Europa League quarter-final second-leg tie against Sevilla.

“He’s 22 years of age, Brazilian lad, has come from a different country. It was going to take him a bit of time to settle in but now – ok, we’re coming to the end of the season – but in the next couple of years he could be a huge player for this club,”

    he further added.

Antony played the full 90 minutes against Sevilla, but United team still lost by a score of 3-0 and were eliminated from Europa League contention as a result.

The Red Devils have a chance to get back on track this Sunday when they play in-form Brighton in the FA Cup semi-finals.
