Gujarat Giants’ Ashleigh Gardner shed light on her feelings after putting an outstanding all-round show in Gujarat Giants win over Delhi Capitals in the ongoing Women’s Premier League.

The star all-rounder scored a match-winning half century with the bat and took two wickets with the ball, helping Gujarat to beat the Capitals by 11 runs.

The Australian has not been as consistent as per her standard. After the injury of Beth Mooney, she had a huge role to play in Gujarat’s batting. However, she wasn’t at her best with the bat until the game against DC where she scored her first half century of the WPL.

Gujarat went on to win their second game, followed by Gardner winning the player of the match. While speaking after the game, Gardner admitted her inconsistent run with the bat in the tournament so far.

“It’s the game I was searching for. I felt I’d been inconsistent so far in the tournament,”

the 25-year-old said after the match.

Gardner had hardly scored 50 runs in the tournament before this game. After being asked to bat first Gujarat had a slow start, but her innings in the second half helped the team to post a competitive total. She added a match winning 81 runs for the third wicket with Laura Wolvaardt.

“To put my team in a winning position with the bat, Laura and I set the platform for our team to leverage,”

    Gardner added.

Gujarat set up a 148-run target for Delhi and following a dominating performance with the ball, Sneh Rana and co managed to defend the target, winning the game by 11 runs.

Gardner further added how it felt as a team to bowl out a team for the first time in the tournament as they registered only their second win in the tournament.

The Giants are now placed fourth in the points table with four wins in six games. They have two games left in the league stage, with each of them as a must win encounter for them to keep themselves alive in the tournament.
