In a weird conflict of interest, Manchester United legend and technical director Darren Fletcher has allowed his twin sons to sign for rivals Manchester City’s academy. Fletchers’ soon-to-turn 16-year-old sons, Jack and Tyler, are poised for professional deals at the Etihad Stadium.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, the pair of players are highly regarded by the Citizens and are viewed as strong talents to bank on. The club is expected to offer them professional contracts very soon and it might even take place as early as 2023.

The Scotsman is said to be happy and satisfied with the path that his sons have taken and doesn’t want to intervene in their decisions despite his affiliation with United.

Fletcher first found success with the Red Devils as a player when he joined the club in 2000 under Sir Alex Ferguson’s tenure. He spent 15 years with the club before moving to West Brom on a free transfer.

During his stellar career, he won five Premier League titles with the club, a Champions League, the Club World Cup, the FA Cup, as well as three League Cups. He spent four years away from Old Trafford towards the backend of his career, playing for WBA and Stoke City before calling time on his football career at the latter in 2019.

The 38-year-old returned back to Old Trafford to serve as assistant manager of the youth team. He then became the number two in the men’s first team before being appointed as the technical director, a role which he is currently serving.

Despite these affiliations with United, Fletcher was more than happy to let his sons play for the city rivals. They have starred for City through the age groups and have been offered one-year scholarship deals, which would then convert into professional terms for a further three seasons.
