Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has issued a challenge to France ahead of his team’s 2022 FIFA World Cup semifinal match on Wednesday.

In the last 16, the Atlas Lions defeated 2010 World Cup winner Spain on penalties. In the last eight, they defeated 2016 UEFA European champions Portugal 1-0.

Morocco will now face the reigning champions. Regragui was upbeat ahead of the match at Al Bayt Stadium. In a pre-match press conference, he stated that Morocco will not be satisfied with making it to the last four, saying:

“We want to go to the final and win. We are ready to do anything to achieve this goal. We will have extraordinary energy tomorrow. Saying that we are satisfied to have reached the semifinals does not suit us, be the only chance to win it. We’re not tired; tomorrow we are going to race.”

Morocco has made history by becoming the first African team to reach the FIFA World Cup semifinals in 2022. They are also undefeated and have only conceded once in five games.

The side’s toughest test, however, will be against Didier Deschamps‘ side, who defeated England 2-1 in the quarterfinals thanks to a goal from Olivier Giroud. Reigning world champions are ranked fourth in FIFA’s world rankings, while Morocco is ranked 22nd.

The winner of the game will play Argentina for the coveted title on Sunday whilst the loser will play Croatia on Saturday for the third-place tie. This was after Argentina advanced to the World Cup final with a 3-0 semifinal victory over the Croats at Lusail Stadium, thanks to goals from Lionel Messi and Julian Alvarez.
