Ex-England star Flintoff airlifted to hospital after air crash during Top Gear filming

Former England allrounder Andrew Flintoff had to be airlifted to the hospital after a horrible crash mid-air. The accident took place while the 45-year-old was shooting an episode of the BBC series in Surrey.

He got injured and had to be rushed to a medical facility in the UK but as per latest reports, his injuries are thankfully “not life-threatening”.

“Freddie was injured in an accident at the Top Gear test track this morning — with crew medics attending the scene immediately. He has been taken to hospital for further treatment and we will confirm more details in due course,”

    a BBC statement read.

This is not the first time that Flintoff finds himself injured after a high-speed accident since beginning his time as one of the show’s co-presenters back in 2019. Back then, he lost control of a motorised trike, the Time Bandit, while racing at 124 kmph against Chris Harris and Paddy McGuinness.

The accident, however, hadn’t tempered the man’s humour who said he would go at any length to emerge as a winner but on that occasion he perhaps went a little too far.

“I go to great lengths to make sure I do well in Top Gear drag races but on this occasion I went a few lengths too far! It will look more ridiculous than dangerous when you see it on TV,”

    he said.

Flintoff, one of England’s finest-ever cricketers, played 79 Tests, 141 ODIs and 7 T20Is for the three lions in a career spanning 1998 to 2009. He made 3,845 runs in Tests and piled on 3,394 of those in ODIs.  Apart from being a consistent middle-order batter, the cricketer was one of England’s dependable fast-bowlers, taking 226 Test and 169 ODI scalps to his name.

He was famously the ‘Player of the Series’ at the 2005 Ashes, where England regained the urn with a 2-1 scoreline in a Test series for the ages.   That was one of the highlights of the player’s otherwise injury-marred career that sadly came to a premature end near the close of the first decade of the century.
