West Indies have announced their central contracts for the 2021-22 season, and four players have received their maiden contracts. Kyle Mayers, Nkrumah Bonner and Joshua Da Silva were handed red-ball contracts, while Akeal Hosein received a white-ball contract. Meanwhile, Jason Holder is the only player to receive an all-format contract.

There are nine cricketers in the red-ball contract and nine in the white-ball list as well. Kyle Mayers and Nkrumah Bonne,r who were the heroes for West Indies during their magnificent Test series win in Bangladesh, have been handed contracts for the first time. The duo, who have impressed in the early stages of their Test career, received red-ball contracts alongside wicket-keeper batsman Joshua Da Silva. Meanwhile, left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein got a white-ball contract.

Roston Chase, who was alongside Holder in the all-format contract last time, has been dropped from the retainer list. Shimron Hetmyer, Oshane Thomas, Sheldon Cottrell, Shane Dowrich and Keemo Paul were also among the 11 players who were omitted from the contract list. The period of evaluation considered is from 1st of April 2020 to 1st of April 2021. All the players who lost their international retainers contract will now be offered an A* grade Regional Franchise Contract.

“I am happy for all the players who have been offered retainer contracts for the upcoming period, especially pleasing was the number of players who were awarded first time contracts in recognition of their performances during the period under review.

I know that the eleven players who have lost their International retainers will be striving and fighting hard to get back into the teams and earn their central contracts back next year.

These players, along with our T20 specialists, will ensure that we have genuine competition for places that will push everyone to attain higher standards of performance,”

Jimmy Adams who is the Director of West Indies Cricket was quoted saying in a statement.

The contracts that will be handed out now will come into effect from the 1st of July 2021 and will be effective for a year.
