Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has backed young batter Shubman Gill, saying he may achieve great things in the next ten years. Yuvraj hailed Gill as a hardworking cricketer whose consistency has pleased him.

During the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, the two-time World Cup champion worked with the youngster. During his tenure, Gill not only polished his talents, but he also made an impression on the Indian white-ball great.

The 23-year-old has played 11 Tests and 15 One-Day Internationals for India. He has had a fantastic start to his one-day career, with an average of 57.25. Gill also has a century to go along with four half-centuries, most of which he has scored in recent times, as the senior squad was rested in preparation for the T20 World Cup.

Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar also had positive things to say about Gill. The stalwart believes Gill’s scores of 50 or 60-odd runs do not at all do justice to his enormous talent.

Nevertheless, according to Gavaskar, the Gujarat Titans opener will need to produce significant knocks and has to cross the three-figure mark on a few occasions in order to establish a claim for the opener’s spot in the 2023 ODI World Cup.

“Shubman Gill will have to score hundreds and hundreds. Not the 50s and 60s that he is getting. He is a terrific talent, make no mistake. He is a rare talent.

But he is not doing justice to his talent by getting out in the 50s or 60s. Yes sometimes I understand that you are kind of trying to up the scoring rate but he has got to convert those 50s and 60s into impact hundreds and 120. Those knocks make a difference to the result,”

    Gavaskar said.
