Aware of the health crisis India is enduring due to the latest wave of the coronavirus pandemic, cricketers Jaydev Unadkat, Nicholas Pooran and the Australian Media have decided to donate and help the relief work being carried out across the nation.

Rajasthan Royal’s Unadkat confirmed he will be donating 10% of his IPL salary as his contribution towards assisting Covid-19 patients who are in urgent need of essential medical resources.

Unadkat, the left-arm veteran pacer from Saurashtra, had been retained by RR for this year’s edition of the IPL after being picked at the auction the previous season for a sum of INR 3 crores.

“I am contributing 10% of my IPL salary towards providing essential medical resources for those in need. My family will make sure it reaches the right places. Jai Hind!,”

Unadkat tweeted as caption to a video where he expressed his sympathies with the people who have suffered due to the pandemic.

Earlier, the Royals franchise, whom Unadkat represents, had also made a collective contribution of INR 7.5 crores to help India fight the latest wave of the outbreak.

Punjab Kings batsman Pooran has also decided to donate a part of his salary from the IPL 2021 towards pandemic relief funds.

Pooran, who has been with PBKS since IPL 2019, had been picked then at a sum of INR 4.20 crores. The cricketer made the announcement of his donation via a Twitter post on Friday (April 30).

“Although many other countries are still being affected by the pandemic, the situation in India right now is particularly severe. I will do my part to bring awareness and financial assistance to this dire situation,”

he posted in the caption to a video message.

Notably, the Australian cricket media has also donated a sum of $4200 to a charity foundation, providing help in the relief work for patients amid the health emergency.

“The Australian cricket media has a special affection for India and its great people who are suffering deeply at this time. The Australian Cricket Media Association has made a small donation of $4200 to the Give Foundation https://covid.giveindia.org Please support in any way you can,”

tweeted one of the prominent journalists.
