‘He doesn’t do that’- ex-England captain Adams critical of Kane’s World Cup performances

England striker Harry Kane has received criticism from Arsenal veteran Tony Adams for his unwillingness to make perilous runs behind the defence of the opponent.

“He doesn’t get in behind the defence and he doesn’t face you up. He’s a link player who is going deeper and deeper to get the ball.

Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling on either side of him do face people up and take the ball to them, but they’re not getting in behind either and there are no crosses coming in for Kane where he can be dangerous.”

    the former England captain said.

Kane has not yet scored a goal for the Three Lions in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The captain forward was unable to score in England’s convincing 6-2 win over Iran in their first game in the World Cup but nevertheless managed to register two assists.

In the ensuing match against the USA, which ended in a scoreless draw, the 29-year-old was also unsuccessful in finding the back of the net. Moreover, he was unable to create a single chance, a deviation from his regular style of play, where he engages in hold-up play and often sets up his teammates.

Kane has not yet found his groove on the international stage, but for his club Tottenham, he has been in outstanding form, having scored 12 goals in 15 Premier League games this year.

“We need Harry Kane, he is obviously one of the best strikers in the World, you only have to look at his numbers, but if I was a centre-back up against him in Qatar I’d have a cigar on.

The former Arsenal player offered his opinion on how Kane could alter his playing style for England. Adams thinks the Tottenham star has to make darting forward runs into danger zones rather than dropping towards the middle of the field.
