‘KKR are missing aggression and intent,’ McCullum says after loss against Delhi Capitals

Brendon McCullum, the head coach of Kolkata Knight Riders, was extremely unhappy with his team’s dismal performance against the Delhi Capitals.

KKR are having a terrible season. After four losses in a row, they were finally able to win a game against Punjab Kings. However, their joy was short-lived as the team was blown away by Delhi Capitals in their last game. Lashing out at the players, KKR head coach Brendon McCullum said that the team’s performance was very disappointing.

“That’s the style of play which both myself and the captain Morgan have asked of our players. But unfortunately we’re not quite getting that. We’re certainly not getting it in the abundance that we need,”

McCullum said after another dismal batting performance.

KKR managed to get only 154 on the board against DC, which never looked like a challenge to the DC’s batting line-up. The hero of the chase for the Capitals was Prithvi Shaw, who smashed six boundaries in the very first over of the innings. His 82 off 41 balls ensured an easy win for DC.

Praising Shaw, McCullum claimed that his innings was the perfect template of how KKR players should be playing. He said that players are not always going to be able to hit every ball for four or six, but they can have the intent to do so, particularly when they’re given a free licence.

“It’s very difficult if you don’t play shots to score runs, and unfortunately tonight we didn’t play enough shots. It’s become a bit of a theme,”

the coach said hinting towards the sluggish batting approach of the top order.

McCullum hinted that they might see a few changes in the KKR playing eleven in the next game. Moreover, he was particularly frustrated by the team’s openers as they have not been able to hit big during the power-plays, which is critical on slow surfaces.
