The young South African sensation Dewald Brevis went on to break several records as he forced the world to take notice yet again. The 19-year-old played a blistering knock of 162 off just 57 for the Titans against the Knights in the CSA T20 Challenge.

On his way to one of the most destructive innings, the youngster broke several records, including the highest ever individual score in the CSA T20 Challenge. This was also the joint third highest ever score in the shorter format. Brevis completed his century off just 35 balls – which was the fifth-fastest hundred in T20 cricket.

Widely regarded as ‘Baby AB’, Brevis has uncanny resemblance with the Protea great. Speaking to SuperSport after the match, Brevis revealed that it’s not a coincidence and that he has watched countless videos to learn how AB de Villiers hit the ball and how the bat swing works.

“From young – and still now – I watch lots of videos about AB and all these guys, how they hit the ball. And I like AB’s natural bat swing. And back in your head, you get a visual of how the ball goes, how the bat falls and everything. So I try to watch as much as possible, and to just also be myself,”

    he said.

Brevis is highly sought-after in franchise cricket at such an young age. He was secured by Mumbai Indians last year and will turn up for MI Cape Town in the upcoming SA20 league as well. He recently played for St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League.

The youngster’s next goal is to play for the Proteas senior side and Brevis believes he’s on the right path. It is understood that the SA team management wants Brevis in the side but first want him to go through a domestic season.

“That is the next stepping stone. I believe that the people in control know the best. Everything works out as it should. This is where I have to be. This is part of my journey. I am at the right place where I need to be,”

    he added.
