New BCCI president Roger Binny lavished praise on Virat Kohli innings in the T20 World Cup 2022 game against Pakistan. Binny described the innings as one of the best he had seen in the format as the player carried India to a famous win. He added that the match as a rarity and a treat for the fans who flock to stadiums for such events.

“It was like a dream for me. Couldn’t realise the way the ball was being hit in the park by Kohli. It was a fantastic victory. You never see such matches where most of the time the match was in Pakistan’s favour and all of a sudden it came back to India. Good for the game as it’s what the crowd wants to see,”

Binny said after his felicitation ceremony at the KSCA in Bengaluru.

Binny was dismissive when asked if Kohli had proved himself worthy of being in the T20I side, saying that the former skipper was too great of a player to concern himself with doubters and that his place in the side was never in question.

He added a word about the controversy surrounding the no-ball incident in the game, saying that the right decision was taken, and that it should be accepted.

“Kohli didn’t have to prove himself. He is a class player and players like him thrive in pressure situations, pressure brings out the best of them. When you lose the game, you should take it squarely and fairly, people should appreciate the way India played to win the game.”

Binny was appointed as BCCI President after the completion of Sourav Ganguly’s term at the helm of affairs. It was widely speculated that Ganguly would continue along with Jay Shah, who has managed to retain his position as BCCI secretary.

There were also undercurrents of a potential role at the ICC for the Prince of Bengal, but none of that seemed to materialise. As a result of Binny’s election to the top post, a felicitation ceremony was organised at the KSCA, where Binny has held a longstanding role.

“Today is one of the most memorable days of mine at the KSCA as I’ve never had such a good reception by fellow members of the committee and colleagues of the KSCA. I have never had such a good rapport with them anytime.

Happy to be a part of the KSCA as I’ve served it for 50 years as a cricketer, from U-19 in 1973 to the right until now and proud of being a Karnataka player.”

Binny said as he spoke of his lengthy relationship with the KSCA.
