Mumbai City and Jamshedpur share spoils; late Ogbeche goal helps Hyderabad climb atop Indian Super League table

Despite dominating the possession and creating plenty of chances, Mumbai City were left frustrated by Jamshedpur as both sides shared points.

Arriving into this match on the back of a win in their last encounter, City persisted with the same starting lineup against Jamshedpur while the visitors had made two changes to their XI. Both teams began proceedings well, with Jamshedpur winning a corner in the second minute, but it was MCFC who got their noses ahead.

The deadlock was broken after just eight minutes on the clock. Greg Stewart was involved in the thick of the action once again as he played a low ball across the face of goal as Lallianzuala Chhangte darted towards it to bury it.

However, their lead lasted for only four minutes, with Daniel Chukwu Chima restoring parity in the 12th minute.

Wellington Priori took a long throw from the right-hand side, which was flicked on by Harry Sawyer, and Chukwu rose high to meet the ball and head it into the top-right corner.

Mumbai started dominating possession more towards the half-hour mark and threatening the opposition. Jamshedpur had their fair share of chances too, as Boris Singh, latching on to a ball from Wellington Priori, couldn’t get enough power on his shot and aimed it straight at the keeper. The Brazilian was guilty of squandering another chance moments later when he failed to properly control Chukwu’s cross from the left.

For most of the second half, the Jamshedpur defence was disciplined. Vikram Singh, who came off from the bench, saw his looping effort bouncing off the bar while TP Rehenesh was called into action to deny a brilliant effort from Stewart’s free-kick. Both sides created opportunities in the final minutes of the game, but neither of them were able to capitalise on it.

On the other hand, defending champions Hyderabad continued their unbeaten run in the competition following a narrow 1-0 victory over Bengaluru at the G.M.C. Balayogi Athletic Stadium. Dependable striker Bartholomew Ogbeche headed home in the 83rd minute of the game following a parry from goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu from a corner kick.

It was enough for Hyderabad to secure the win as they climbed to the top of the Indian Super League table with seven points.
