Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly is no longer continuing as BCCI president and Roger Binny is said to be replacing him. Ganguly has now set his sights on the position of Cricket Association of Bengal president, a post he held between 2015 and 2019, and is expected to file his nomination soon.

“Yes, I will be contesting the CAB polls. I plan to file my nomination on October 22. I have been in CAB for five years and as per Lodha rules, I can continue for another four years. I will finalise my panel on October 20,”

    Ganguly told PTI.

It was earlier believed that his older brother, Snehashish would contest in place of current CAB President Avishek Dalmiya but the former Indian skipper’s decision has changed a lot of things, and he is now in pole position to become president of his home state cricket association for the second time.

Ganguly had left the post of CAB President in 2019 to become the President of BCCI. However, he is all set to be replaced by former Indian World Cup winning all-rounder Roger Binny and Ganguly will travel to Mumbai to chair the Annual General Meeting on October 18 and will hand over the reins of the board to the new regime led by Binny.

The most influential position in the board, the post of secretary, will continue to be held by Jay Shah, while Rajiv Shukla is also set to stay on as BCCI’s vice-president.

If he wins the CAB elections, Ganguly will become only the second person after Jagmohan Dalmiya to hold the post of President twice post-independence.

“Ganguly wants to work on cricket and helping cricketers. He has always been very passionate about CAB. He couldn’t continue as BCCI president because the board doesn’t encourage one person to continue as president for two successive terms. But he has substantial experience as an administrator now,”
