Goals from Harry Kane and Pierre Emile Hojbjerg helped Tottenham Hotspur to secure a 2-0 victory on Saturday as they drew level with second-placed Manchester City in the Premier Leagu table, albeit with an extra game played.

Spurs will be flying high on confidence, especially after their positive 2-0 victory over Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The hosts actually struggled to find their footing in the first half and carve out significant chances.

They found themselves leading the contest when Everton keeper Jordan Pickford made a silly error and brought down captain Kane in the box. The leader stepped up and converted it from 12 yards to make Frank Lampard’s side rue their missed opportunities in the first half.

Everton enjoyed the best chances in the first 45 minutes of the contest. Demarai Gray was the first to capitalise when he beat Rodrigo Bentancur to a ball over the top and raced through on goal only to put the effort well over the bar.

And just before half-time, Amadou Onana raced onto goal, but his effort was also skewed over. Spurs made sure to punish those errors by getting their noses ahead from the penalty spot in the 60th minute of the contest as Kane slotted the ball home in his 400th appearance for the North London club.

Despite Lampard’s substitutions, Everton struggled to claw their way back into the game. Antonio Conte’s side dealt the final blow with Pierre Hojbjerg scoring four minutes before the end of regulated time.

The Dane was found in the box by Bentancur, and a deflected shot past Pickford secured all three points for Spurs, who are now third in the table with 23 points and level with Manchester City.

Most points won by Spurs after the first 10 games of a Premier League season:

    ◉ 23 – 2022/23
    ◎ 22 – 2011/12
    ◎ 21 – 2018/19, 2020/21
    ◎ 20 – 2013/14, 2016/17, 2017/18

Elsewhere, Leicester City’s underwhelming start to the season dragged on for another week as they shared spoils after a clumsy goalless draw with Crystal Palace at home on Saturday. The Foxes continue to be second from bottom in the Premier League table and there are reasons for major concern going forward.

In other results, Fulham played out a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth, while Wolverhampton left the relegation zone after beating Nottingham Forest by a margin of 1-0.
