Team India bowled out the Proteas in the third ODI for just 99 in just 27.1 overs and chased it down in 19.1 overs, making it the shortest completed ODI in India.

South Africa’s hopes of winning the series and earning 10 crucial points for their ODI World Cup qualification diminished as they ended up losing the third ODI by seven wickets on Tuesday. India made light work of the visitors, winning the match in just 46.2 overs and clinching the series by 2-1.

Kuldeep Yadav led the spin carnage with 4 for 18, while Washington Sundar and Shahbaz Ahmed bagged two scalps each as they shot out the Proteas for 99 – their lowest total against India.

India won the toss and sent South Africa in on a damp surface. Sundar opened the bowling alongside Mohammed Siraj and found spin right away. He removed Quinton de Kock in his second over as the left-hander top-edged a delivery to short third. Siraj bowled five overs with the new ball and struck twice – dismissing Janneman Malan for 15 in the eighth over and Reeza Hendricks for 3 in the 10th over of the innings.

Ahmed got into the act quickly and had Aiden Markram stumped with a beaut of a delivery. The Proteas were reduced to 43 for 4, with in-form Miller joining Heinrich Klaasen. The duo added 23 runs before Miller was knocked over by Sundar with an arm ball. Klaasen added 34 runs before Shahbaz bowled him. Kuldeep then wrapped up the innings by dismissing the tail in no time.

Chasing the target, Shubman Gill displayed his class yet again and scored 49 off 57 with eight boundaries. Shikhar Dhawan’s poor form continued, getting run out for 8. Shreyas Iyer carried his touch with 28* off 23 to seal the game.

South Africa ended the series in 11th position in the ICC CWC Super League with 59 points from 16 matches. They have five more ODIs against England and Netherlands to try and finish in the top eight for direct qualification.

    Brief scores

South Africa 99 in 27.1 overs (Klaasen 34; Yadav 4/18, Siraj 2/17, Sundar 2/15) lost to India 105/3 in 19.1 overs (Gill 49, Iyer 28*; Ngidi 1/21) by seven wickets.
