Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta has expressed his concern at the current state of his former club, saying that he feels a certain ’emotional instability’ at the club.
The World Cup-winning midfielder, who represents currently represent Japanese side Vissel Kobe after leaving Barcelona in 2018, felt that a single loss could cause a major shift in the attitude of the side, despite good form in the games prior to it.
Iniesta was referring to the Catalans’ troubles in the Champions League after defeats to Bayern Munich and Inter Milan. Although Barcelona are currently enjoying an excellent run in LaLiga, where they are currently top of the table, one point ahead of Real Madrid, there seems to be an element of doubt with regards to their Champions League qualification.
Barcelona could potentially be headed to the Europa League for a second consecutive season after losses to Bayern and Inter have jeopardised their chances of progressing to the knockout stages of the tournament. Another defeat to Inter could seal Barca’s fate as they head into the crucial encounter at Camp Nou.
“From a distance, it seems to me that, around Barcelona, there is a certain emotional instability. Victories give a lot of morale, but a single defeat is enough for doubts to return, to lower the general mood,”
Iniesta said.
The iconic midfielder also lavished praise on Barcelona’s two young midfielders Pedri and Gavi, referring to the duo’s fearlessness as a wonderful quality that would take them to the top level sooner rather than later.
“They are two very young boys who have a great present and a spectacular future. Gavi and Pedri play very naturally, with ease, I don’t think they feel the pressure,”
the 38-year-old added.
