Taniya Bhatia, the wicketkeeper for the India women’s cricket team, has said that she was robbed while staying in the London team hotel recently for the three-match ODI bilateral series against England. The hotel chain promised to resolve the issue after Bhatia took to social media to express her disappointment.

With a 3-0 series victory over the hosts, the visitors ended the tour triumphantly. However, the final ODI at Lord’s sparked a great deal of controversy when Charlotte Dean was run out by Deepti Sharma at the non-striker’s end after she had been backing up excessively.

The incident created a huge controversy across the cricket fraternity, with English supporters calling the form of dismissal ‘unsportsmanlike’ and ‘against the spirit of the game’.

However, several reputed voices in the cricketing world sided with the Indian team, acknowledging the fact that what transpired was well within the laws and that any side looking to gain undue advantage had to be penalised.

Nevertheless, after India’s clean sweep of their English counterparts, Bhatia revealed that her hotel room had been ransacked and that the burglar broke into her hotel room and looted her possessions. The 24-year-old posted a series of tweets where she expressed her utter disappointment at the nonchalance of the hotel staff and management, as she lost many valuables, including cash, cards, watches, and jewellery.

2/2 Hoping for a quick investigation and resolution of this matter. Such lack of security at @ECB_cricket's preferred hotel partner is astounding. Hope they will take cognisance as well.@Marriott @BCCIWomen @BCCI

Marriott responded to Bhatia via its official Twitter handle, promising to look into the matter and resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

Hello again, Taniyaa, The hotel management has already started an investigation and they are contacting you directly to discuss this issue with you in person.

The England and Wales Cricket Board, however, is yet to put out a statement regarding this matter, even as the player criticised them for their choice of hospitality partner.
