Premier League will return this weekend after a week off. However, the league has decided to postpone Chelsea’s fixture against Liverpool and Manchester United’s tie against Leeds United.

Premier League has confirmed that though the competition will resume this weekend, three fixtures will be played on a later date. The fixtures postponed are between Chelsea and Liverpool, Manchester United and Leeds United, and Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace.

“Following extensive consultation with clubs, police, local Safety Advisory Groups and other relevant authorities, there was no other option but to postpone the three fixtures,”

a statement by the Premier League read.

While Chelsea’s fixture against Liverpool in London, scheduled for September 18, won’t go ahead, Arsenal’s trip to Brentford will. Similarly, Tottenham, too, will welcome Leicester City to North London a day earlier.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s UEFA Europa League fixture against PSV Eindhoven will not go ahead. The two were supposed to play each other on Thursday, September 15, but UEFA has confirmed that the game has been called off for the time being due to limited police resources and other issues.

“UEFA today announced that the UEFA Europa League tie between Arsenal FC and PSV Eindhoven, originally to be played on Thursday 15 September, has been postponed with a new date to be communicated in due course,”

    a statement by UEFA read.

“This is due to the severe limitations on police resources and organisational issues related to the ongoing events surrounding the national mourning for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”

Nonetheless, UEFA has allowed Chelsea’s home tie against RB Salzburg to be played at its regular time. The Blues will welcome the Austrian side to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, September 14.

After this week, the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League, and other divisions across Europe will enter a two-week hiatus period as players disembark for international duties. The English top division will return on October 1 with a North London Derby and a Manchester Derby in store, while the Champions League will be back three days later.
