Veteran Mahmudullah was the most notable absentee as Bangladesh named their 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2022, to be played in Australia in October-November.

The 36-year-old hasn’t had the best of the year with the bat in T20Is, having aggregated 151 runs from eight innings at a strike-rate of 110.22. In Bangladesh’s disappointing Asia Cup 2022 campaign in the UAE recently, wherein they crashed out of the competition with back-to-back defeats to Afghanistan and Sri Lanka respectively, the right-hander registered scores of 25 off 27 and 25 off 22.

Mahmudullah led Bangladesh in 43 T20Is till date – the most – until being replaced by Shakib Al Hasan in the role earlier this year.

Mushfiqur Rahim doesn’t feature in the squad either, having announced his retirement from the format recently. Parvez Hossain Emon, Anamul Haque, Mahedi Hasan and Mohammad Naim, each of whom were a part of the Asia Cup squad, have been dropped.

The 15-member squad, led by Al Hasan, also sees the return of Litton Das, Yasir Ali, Nurul Hasan, Hasan Mahmud and Najmul Hossain Shanto.

The same squad will feature in the tri-series in New Zealand preceding the T20 World Cup, also featuring Pakistan, to be played between October 7 and 14.

Bangladesh will play two warm-up matches – against Afghanistan and South Africa – on October 17 and 19, respectively, before their campaign begins on October 24 in Hobart against the team finishing second in Group A in the preceding round.

    Squad

Shakib Al Hasan, Sabbir Rahman, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Afif Hossain, Mossadek Hossain, Liton Das, Yasir Ali, Nurul Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman, Saifuddin, Taskin Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain, Hasan Mahmud, Najmul Hossain, Nasum Ahmed

    Reserves

Shoriful Islam, Rishad Hossain, Mahedi Hasan, Soumya Sarkar
