Aguero lavishes praise on ex-colleague Arteta, believes Arsenal are dark horses in Premier League title race

A bonafide Premier League legend Sergio Aguero is of the opinion that Arsenal could get involved in the race for the Premier League title even though Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and his former side and defending champions Manchester City start as the obvious favourites.

Liverpool and City have not only been the two best sides in England over the last few years but have arguably been the best two teams in Europe lately. Unsurprisingly, the Premier League trophy has also been caught in a tug of war between Anfield and Etihad Stadium.

Each of the last five titles have been decided between the two teams, with the Citizens having a firm upper hand with four wins. Meanwhile, Liverpool won the coveted title once again in 2019-20, bringing to an end 30 years of long and arduous wait.

With suggestion in England that the league is essentially becoming a two-horse race every season, City legend Aguero, who has won five Premier League titles with the club, believes that Arsenal could be the ‘dark horses’ in the title race this time around.

The Argentine also has the experience of working alongside current Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, who had served as an understudy to Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium for several years before pursuing his own path and becoming the head coach of the Gunners.

“Arsenal are dark horses for the title after their transfer business, but Man City and Liverpool are clearly favourites,”

    Aguero told Stake.com.

“As always, I believe that the Premier League will show this season that it is beginning to be one of the most competitive leagues in the world. And in this sense, my candidates are Manchester City, which I think can repeat, Liverpool, Chelsea and I add Arsenal, which has strengthened very well and has had great games in the pre-season.”

Arsenal have been active in the transfer market and have made a flurry of exciting signings to bolster the squad. The addition of former Manchester City striker and full-back Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko are the most notable ones.
