The Blues have surprisingly fired head coach Thomas Tuchel following their 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League opener. Tuchel German leaves the club after 100 games in charge, during which he maintained a respectable win percentage of 60.

Chelsea have dismissed Tuchel just seven games into the season. The Blues had lost two of their opening six games in the Premier League, drawn another, and won three. However, they began their 2022/23 UEFA Champions League campaign with a reverse against Dinamo.

The Chelsea ownership released a statement through the club website confirming the same. They thanked the German for his services, announced that the club’s coaching staff will take charge of the men’s senior team training for the time being, and a new head coach will be appointed in due course – until when the hierarchy will refrain from further comments.

“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the Club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club. Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea’s history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup, and Club World Cup in his time here,”

     read the statement.

Tuchel joined Chelsea in January 2020, replacing the sacked club legend Frank Lampard in the Stamford Bridge hot seat. In his first six months in charge, the Blues lost the FA Cup final and finished fourth in the Premier League, but won their second UEFA Champions League title by beating rivals Manchester City 1-0 in Porto.

His second season brought more silverware and more losses in cup finals; Chelsea relinquished the trophy to Liverpool in both the 2021/22 EFL Cup and the FA Cup but won the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup – the latter for the first time in its history. The Blues finished third in the Premier League.
