The Proteas have named identical squads for their upcoming T20I series in India and the subsequent T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

Bavuma is set to return from a long injury break and will lead South Africa during their upcoming white-ball tour of India and the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. He was ruled out of the ongoing England tour after he sustained an elbow injury during the team’s five-match T20I series against India earlier this season.

Youngster Tristian Stubbs finds a spot in the 15-member squad, as do Rilee Rossouw and Wayne Parnell, each of whom were a part of the T20I squad in England back in July.

Notably, South Africa have suffered a major setback, with Rassie van der Dussen being ruled out of action for at least six weeks, having picked up a left index finger injury during the second Test against England at Old Trafford.

Bjorn Fortuin, Marco Jansen and Andile Phehlukwayo have been named as the reserves. Opener Janneman Malan, who hasn’t been named in the T20I squads, finds a place in the ODI contingent.

“This has been a really tough squad to select, simply because we had so many players in excellent form over the past few months and performing at a level that made the selectors sit up and notice them,”

CSA Convenor of Selectors Victor Mpitsang said.

The Proteas will play England in the third Test at The Oval, beginning Thursday, September 8, with the series currently being levelled at 1-1. They will then tour India for three T20Is between September 28 and October 4, followed by as many ODIs on October 6, 9 and 11 respectively.
