“Sore loser”: Keane blasts Arteta following defeat at Man Utd

Former Manchester United captain-turned-pundit Roy Keane blasted Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta in the aftermath of the Red Devils’ 3-1 win over the Gunners on Sunday night – which was Arsenal’s first defeat of the season.

Arteta’s complaints following the game fell to deaf ears, his team already having lost for the first time this season. Instead, he managed to agitate Keane, who labeled the Spaniard a “sore loser, like us all”, implying that he has to give the Red Devils due credit for their performance.

“I’m fed up of all their excuses. I’m serious. Arteta gets interviewed after the game, he’s a sore loser, like us all.

“He’s got to give a little bit of credit to Man United but he never does. Every time he loses a game it’s all about what the opposition didn’t do properly or the officials. Stop making excuses. You lost the game 3-1, you’ve done okay. Take your plaudits but give me the points any day of the week,”

    said Keane.

The only controversial talking point of the game came 12 minutes after kick-off when the officials decided to chalk off an Arsenal goal for a foul in the build-up by captain Martin Odegaard. Manchester United would take the lead a little over 20 minutes later through new, big-money, summer signing Antony, who rolled the ball past Aaron Ramsdale after being played into space by Marcus Rashford.

Meanwhile, Rashford scored twice later, but only after Bukayo Saka had leveled matters – albeit just for six minutes – by tapping the ball into an empty net. However, the Englishman’s double ensured that the Red Devils would take maximum points for the fourth game in a row, ending Arsenal’s perfect record in the process.

The Gunners have a short turnaround time with FC Zurich (Europa League) up first on Thursday and Everton (Premier League) on the following Sunday.

Erik ten Hag’s men are on the same schedule; they play Real Sociedad in the midweek round of European fixtures before traveling to Selhurst Park for a bout against Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace on Sunday.
