Chelsea come from behind to beat West Ham; Liverpool, City both held to draws

Late goals from Ben Chilwell and Kai Havertz helped the Blues beat West Ham after going a goal down.

It looked like it would be one of those nights for Chelsea an hour into their Premier League match against London rivals West Ham United. The Blues had probed for an opening for 60 minutes, but the Hammers stood firm before taking the lead in the 62nd minute through Michail Antonio, following a corner that the home side failed to clear.

As a response, Thomas Tuchel looked to his bench and sent on Chilwell and Havertz. The Englishman brought Chelsea level in the 76th minute, controlling a long pass from Thiago Silva and squeezing it between the legs of Lukasz Fabianski from a tight angle.

The left-wingback provided the cross for Havertz’s winner two minutes from time, the German firing the ball into the net from close range to win the match for the Blues – with some help from VAR, who ruled out a Maxwel Cornet goal at the other end just a minute later.

Chelsea leapfrogged Liverpool into the fifth position after the Reds were held by their rivals Everton to a goalless draw in the season’s first Merseyside derby. Both sides hit the post across the 90 minutes, the Toffees through Tom Davies in the first half and the Reds through Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah on either side of the break. Everton did have the ball in the net in the 69th minute when former Conor Coady bundled it over the line, only for the referee to pull it back for offside.

Meanwhile, Spurs recorded their fourth win of the season over a newly-promoted Fulham, climbing to third in the table as a result. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg gave Tottenham the lead five minutes before half-time, firing the ball past Bernd Leno from close range after collecting a pass from Richarlison in his stride.

Harry Kane doubled his team’s lead in the 75th minute, turning in the loose ball after it had rebounded off Leno into his path. Aleksandar Mitrovic curled a consolation goal into the top corner in the 83rd minute, as Spurs held on to maximum points.

A struggling Aston Villa held Manchester City to a 1-1 draw at Villa Park. After a goalless first half, the Citizens took the lead in the 50th minute through Erling Haaland, volleying a cross from Kevin de Bruyne at the back post. But, Leon Bailey ensured that the points were split with a thunderous strike from the centre of the box in the 74th minute.

10 – Erling Haaland has scored 10 goals in Manchester City's six @premierleague games this season – this is the earliest into a Premier League season any player has reached 10+ goals. Perfect. https://t.co/555XgmRBrN
